Hello everyone. I want to talk with you about the flow of writing assignments for this course. As you know, the topic you pick in Week One is the topic that you will work on for the entire quarter. You’ll be writing three separate papers on the topic, and these papers follow a logical progression.
Assignment 1, due at the end of Week 3, is a personal reflection in which you will explain why you chose the topic.
Assignment 2, due at the end of Week 5, is an informative essay. You will provide objective information about issues related to your topic. This is the one assignment for which you will submit both a draft and a final revised version. You will receive feedback from me on the draft, and will submit the revised version at the end of Week 7.
Assignment 3 requires you to choose one issue and to take a side. This is an argumentative or persuasive essay, which in this course is called the “stance” essay. This essay is not due until Week 10, but it is important to note that you must complete a draft by the beginning of Week 9. You will post this draft in the Week Nine discussion. This will enable you to revise your draft based on feedback from peers, before submitting your final copy to be graded.
