  • Networking is an essential tool in professional growth as it allows you the opportunity to get to know others in your field. Please introduce yourself by providing your professional biography. This should include your name, educational background, and professional background. You may want to include your location and your extracurricular hobbies as well as this often draws others with similar interests to you. Your professional biography should be at least 2-3 paragraphs in length, but no more than one page. Be sure to be professional in writing this as this will be an important tool in your professional portfolio as many employers will request this along with your resume.
Question B
  • Now that you have enrolled in your first graduate class, it is important to begin setting your goals and determining what is next for you beyond college. Some may be thinking that this is a ways away and that this is not important right now. However, one of the most important steps in your education and your career begins with setting your goals. In this week’s discussion, please explain what you hope to achieve with your graduate degree, both in the short term and the long term.


Your initial response should be a minimum of 150 words. Your work should be in your own words and should include research to support your response. Be sure to avoid Wikipedia as a resource as this is not a reliable source. Include your resources at the end of your response. Once you have completed your response, you will want to respond to at least two (2) of your classmates responses. Please remember that your responses to your classmates should be substantive and should promote additional discussion within the classroom. Simple “I agree” responses will not be counted towards your participation grade.

Personal Branding

This week you learned about personal branding and what that means to your education and your career. Your assignment this week is to define your personal brand. This includes who you want to be and what you want to be known for professionally. You will expand upon the steps that you will take to establish and maintain your brand as you grow both educationally and professionally. 

The requirements below must be met for your paper to be accepted and graded:

  • 250 words (approximately 1 page) using Microsoft Word in APA style, see example below
  • Use font size 12 and 1” margins
  • Include cover page and reference page
  • At least 80% of your paper must be original content/writing
  • No more than 20% of your content/information may come from references
  • Cite all reference material (data, dates, graphs, quotes, paraphrased words, values, etc.) in the paper and list on a reference page in APA style.

References must come from sources such as, scholarly journals found in EBSCOhost, CNN, online newspapers such as, The Wall Street Journal, government websites, etc. Sources such as, Wikis, Yahoo Answers, eHow, blogs, etc. are not acceptable for academic writing.

  • This week you learned about how to research and write at the graduate level. Visit Grantham’s library and search for an article on graduate school. List the article that you found, discuss the concepts that you learned from the article, and include in-text citations and a reference list. In your response to your classmates, explain what you found beneficial about their findings.

Read Like a Graduate Student

  • This week you have learned about the importance of knowing how to read like a graduate student. The tools you have accessible to you now should have you getting through your materials and grasping the important concepts with ease. In the article, “Read Like a Graduate Student, not a Mystery Fan” you learned various techniques and were provided tools that can be used to help you along the way. In your discussion, expand upon what you learned about yourself and your reading style through reading this article. Do you or will you find that the tools listed will be helpful to you as you progress in your studies? Now that you are a graduate student, which of these techniques do you feel will benefit you most as you continue your education? Which of these techniques do you feel will benefit you most as you grow in your career?

Active Learning

  • This week you have learned about the importance of active learning. One of the biggest factors of active learning is that you are not alone and are working among your peers. This week, the discussion will be a debate about active learning strategies and what you feel works and doesn’t work in the online classroom. Those of you with the last name beginning A-L will choose a concept that you feel works in the online classroom. Those of you with the last name beginning M-Z will choose a concept that you feel does not work in the online classroom. 

  • The goal is to generate a list of what works and doesn’t work based on your learning for the week therefore review the posts on the forum before you get started because the topic you list must be unique and not already listed in the classroom discussion. As a part of the debate, you will respond to at least one of your classmates that posted opposite of your view. Your second response can be to any classmate.  In your response, attempt to expand upon the tools you will use to ensure that you are engaged in your learning. Be sure to list any organizations that you feel will be beneficial to get involved in throughout your graduate studies.

You should now have a solid understanding of the tools and techniques that can be used in managing your time as a graduate student. Your assignment this week is to develop a plan that you will use to help you stay on track throughout the week. You will list the resources that you feel could be beneficial in your growth as a graduate student.

You should now have a good understanding of what to expect in graduate school. This week you learned about the importance of understanding the best way to take notes. Review the article Note-Taking Strategies for Online Students and explain the note-taking methods that you feel will work best for you. Do you feel this method may change based on the course you are taking?

  • This week you learned about self-management. You were introduced to techniques that will help you grow as a graduate students. Reflect upon your learning this term to define where you feel you will be successful as a graduate student. What obstacles do you feel you might face as a graduate student? What methods will you use to help overcome the obstacles? What self-management tools will you use to promote success as a graduate student?

Learning Plan

Now that you have an understanding about the type of learner you are, develop a plan based on your learning preferences and strengths that will help you to achieve success throughout the graduate program. You should include your plan for overcoming obstacles as they occur.
