Hello classmates and instructor,

I am live in Keystone Heights, Florida which is in the Gainesville area. I am a father of two a boy and a girl been married for eight years. I currently work in corrections as a Corporal. Before I stared in this career I was in the military were I served in the United States Marine Corps for four years. I am currently working on a degree in sports and recreation management. My goal is to teach physical education and coach for a high school and later in my career become an athletic director. I feel this would be a career that would fit me best.

Three characteristics that describe you as an adult learner.

Adults Draw Upon Their Experiences as a Resource in Their Learning Efforts More Than Youth.

Adult Tend to be More Motivated in Learning Situations Than Youth.

In Contrast to Youth, the Learner Role is Secondary for Adults.

As I read through the article “Ten Characteristics of Adult Learners”

I found that the three characteristics I have chosen best describe me as an adult learner. The reason behind this is I am a student that likes to apply life experience to my work. I think that help people relate to the subject trough personal and life experience.

The second factor I like to consider is my motivation I am encourage to change career paths and are on track to do so. I found that to better yourself in order to find a better career. The professional aspect is a key component to this point.

And the final part is it is a secondary role since I work from 50 to 72 hours a week and have two young children most of my time is taken in order to support and care for them. This is one of the many benefit to online learning in comparison to traditional learning.

The things I want to take away from this class are what step are involved in becoming a teacher and how today student is different from when I was in school.  The other factor I would like to better understand hopefully be able to develop a more in-depth Philosophy on teaching.

My name is Nan. I'm 28 years young and I'm here to get my BS in early childhood education. I started this journey when I was fresh out of high school (2005) but I was younger and thought I knew everything so here I am now. I'm originally from Los Angeles but I currently reside in San Diego.

Some hobbies I like are playing basketball, the piano, reading and just relaxing when I have the time. I'm currently working as a Home Care Aid, I love what I do but I would like to combine my passion for helping the elderly and disabled with my love for children. I hold 3 jobs making minimum wage but it's what I have to do to survive. I'm hoping to turn my current reality into a bright promising future.

Hello Class,

My name is Denise, I have two daughters in New York City, few blocks from Central Park.  My oldest just completed her first year of college who also encouraged me to return to school.  I completed my Associate Degree at Ashford in Early Childhood Education in March, and working on my Bachelors in Early Childhood Education.  I would like to someday be a lead teacher in Special Education

I read “Ten Characteristics of Adult Learners”

The characteristics that describes me best would be:

  • I draw upon my experiences as a Resource in my Learning efforts
  • More motivated in learning situations
  • My learning must fit into Life’s margins

These characteristics help me because, I take my classwork more seriously, than when I was younger. I have to prioritize my time to include time for family, work, time for myself, a social life, and still have time to do my assignments.

Hello Class,

I read all three Adult Learning Article, but the one that stood was “Ten Characteristics of Adult Learners”

The characteristics that describes me best would be:

  • I draw upon my experiences as a Resource in my Learning efforts
  • More motivated in learning situations
  • My learning must fit into Life’s margins

These characteristics help me because as an adult learner, I definitely take my classwork more seriously, than when I was younger.  I have to prioritize my time to include time for family, children’s activities outside of school, time for myself, and still have enough time to complete my assignments without it being a burden.

I want to learn from this course how to approach unexpected situations that may come up during the daily operations of school.  Sometimes you can plan things, but something can happen that changes the plan. This course can help me in the future to accept changes and learn new teaching teaching skills.
