Guided Response:  Review several of your classmates’ posts and respond to at least two of your peers.  Look up the standards your classmates discussed in their initial posts. For each standard listed, share two strategies to teach Dimension 1: Practices. Review this definition prior to sharing your strategies. http://www.nextgenscience.org/three-dimensions

The subject for this discussion will be Energy for middle school students. Students that understand this subject will be able to apply scientific principles to design, construct, and test a device that either minimizes or maximizes thermal energy transfer. This standard will help the United States by finding and building new more efficient ways to produce energy. Every country and energy company in the world is in a race to find a safer, renewable, and consistent energy production system. As it was stated in the video “we need to continue changing and evolving with our ever changing world”. The teacher of these students must be open minded and willing to take a risk. Schools also have a responsibility to make sure that they have the teachers with the right credentials teaching the right subjects. You can’t have a math teacher teaching science if that is not what they went to school to study. This focus on the science of energy will allow the United States to lead the way in the energy industry by being less reliable on fossil fuels and dangers energy production techniques that produce radioactive waste.

K-PS2-1 Motion and Stability: Forces and Interactions

When it comes to common core standards, there has been a lot of debate on whether or not it is necessary in schools. I have had to touch bases on this subject a lot in past classes. And within the research I have done I don’t believe it is fully necessary. It takes away from the modern days of teaching.

Using the motion and stability: Forces and Interactions. Students who demonstrate understanding can: Usually plan and conduct themselves in an investigation to compart the effects of different strengths. And even different directions of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object. They need to understand that pushes and pulls can have different strengths and directions. As well when objects touch or collide. They normally push on one another and can change motion. The bigger the push or pull will make the subject speed up or slow down more quickly.

This was developed by the usage of a document called A Framework for K-12 Science Education from the NRC. “Science and Engineering Practices; Planning and Carrying out investigation. This simply allows our students to plan and carry out their investigations to answer questions or test solutions to solve problems. As well as builds on their experiences and prior knowledge. I believe using the K-PS2-1 Motion and Stability: Forces and Interactions will help our students learn more about Science and Technology by simply being engaged in their own investigations. As well as answering their own questions. This is allowing them a window of opportunities for self-gain, and deepening their knowledge. Science is a very important competent to life. We all need to be properly educated on this subject.
