In order to successfully complete this assignment, you must watch the film you have chosen. Even if you have seen the film before, it is important that you watch the film again keeping in mind the requirements of this assignment.

Write a brief summary of the film you have chosen.

Explain how the film addresses the impact of arts education on adolescents.

Explain how aspects of the film are related to topics and issues we have discussed and read about in class. 

Choose two of the following questions to answer as they relate to your chosen film:

  1. How does the film reflect the struggle the humanities subjects face in light of educational budget cuts?
  2. How does the film reflect the struggle the humanities subjects face in trying to balance their arts activities/aspirations with other aspects of their life?
  3. How does the film address who will ultimately be responsible for adolescents' exposure to the humanities?
  4. How does the film address the ways in which the arts and humanities are taught to adolescents?
  5. How does the film reflect the personal and artistic challenges faced by the humanities subjects?
  6. How does the film reflect the challenges faced by the humanities subjects who may not be supported by school administrators, their community, their parents and/or their peers?

Create a 16- to 20-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation with speaker notes that summarizes the content of the film, explains how the film addresses the impact of arts and humanities education on adolescents, explains how aspects of the film you chose are related to topics and issues we have discussed and read about in class, and that answers the two questions you selected. Note: The 16-to 20-slide count does not include your title slide, questions slide, and references slide.

Use three or more references, outside of the film, to support your discussion and analysis of the film. At least one of your references must be ascholarly source and at least one of your references must be a popular source. Additionally, you must use your course text as a reference for this assignment and explain how aspects of the film are related to topics and issues we have discussed and read about in class.

Be prepared to give a 10-minute presentation of your film analysis to the class. Your oral presentation should focus on the following: 

  • how the film addresses the impact of arts education on adolescents
  • how aspects of the film are related to topics and issues we have discussed and read about in class
  • a discussion of at least one of the questions you chose to answer related to your film

In order to receive full credit, you must give an oral presentation. Note: If you decide to show clips from the film as part of your presentation, the clips will need to be factored into your 10-minute presentation time frame.
