Entry 2: Audience Analysis

  • Consider the expectations for the sub-genre you have chosen. What speeches have you seen in this sub-genre, how did they meet these expectations, and how can you apply what you have seen to your speech? (If you haven’t seen a speech of this sub-genre, view one on YouTube). What expectations related to this sub-genre do you believe your audience will hold?
  • How will you relate your topic to your audience of 212 classmates? (If speaking directly to them, how does the topic connect to their experiences, beliefs, attitudes or values? If you have another audience in mind, how will you indicate to your audience the “role” they are playing in your speech as your “imagined” audience? (In other words, how can you set the scene?)
  • Building upon your response above, how does your theme connect to your audience?
