On September 1, 2014, actress Emma Watson addressed the United Nations as a Goodwill Ambassador to launch the UN’s new “He for She” campaign that aims to persuade the public that gender equality is not just a women’s issue.

Watch the speech on YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-iFl4qhBsE and read more about He for She on the UN website:  http://www.heforshe.org/

What is the persuasive goal of Watson’s speech?  Who is her target audience?  What emotions does she appeal to?  How does she explicitly establish her ethos?  Does avoid defective persuasion?  If she, tell us why.  If not, give specific examples of her defective arguments.  Are you persuaded by her speech?  Why or why not?  If you are not persuaded, what would a speaker have to say about this topic to persuade you?  Could Watson ever be that speaker?
