Discussion Bus375

You are ready to move forward with your project, but you realize you have not done a good job in identifying risks for your project. Using information that you learned from both online lectures, describe a key risk (either one that is technical, external, or organizational) that could impact your project. Then, recommend a risk response for it.

Respond

When planning the ladies’ night/ breakfast, I didn't think I had to factor in any risks because naturally I didn't think there would be any. However, now that I think about it.   What if the ladies came over that night and weren't hungry and I had cooked enough food for them to eat and take home?  That would be a big risk for me because I would have spent a lot of money as well as had a lot of food left over to possibly go to waste.   Looking at it from an externally basis, going by the other ladies’ nights we spent a lot of money and ate all the food.  A risk response: If there are too many leftovers have Sunday dinner with other family members so that the food won't go to waste.

Discussion SCI115

Read the Hastings Science and Technology Law Journal entitled, “Concerns Associated with Expanding DNA Databases” found here then briefly discuss your understanding of DNA fingerprinting technology. Next debate whether or not you would submit your DNA to a national DNA fingerprint database. Justify your response.

Respond

After reading the Hastings Science and Technology Law Journal entitled, "Concerns Associated with Expanding DNA Databases", my understanding of DNA fingerprinting technology is a test to identify and evaluate the genetic information (DNA) in a person's cells. The reasoning behind the name is because it is very unlikely that any two people would have exactly the same DNA information and it is very unlikely that any two people would have exactly the same physical fingerprint. The test is used to determine whether a family relationship exists between two people, to identify organisms causing a disease, and to solve crimes. Only a small sample of cells is needed for DNA fingerprinting. Also, a drop of blood or the root of a hair contains enough DNA for testing.

I think I would not submit my DNA to a national DNA database. I chose this because I prefer my DNA fingerprint to stay my own. Initially, a person submitting their DNA to a national DNA database has its pros and cons.

Pros:

Helps add certainty in a criminal case against the defendant.

Keeps society safer

Unless evidence is collected at a crime scene or volunteered, a person's DNA profile remains their own.

Cons:

Information can be hacked and used for alternative purposes.

Information is stored when samples are created.

it is not 100% accurate.
