Book: Cosmopolitanism: Ethics in a World of Strangers by Kwame Anthony Appiah

Late in chapter 7, Appiah has a short section entitled "In Praise of Contamination." What's wrong with the idea of cultural purity in his view? Summarize his position. Okay, now take a look at your own culture. Look at the songs on your IPod, look at the cuisine in your cupboard, look at the products you buy and the celebrities you admire or despise. How pure is our culture? Is cultural purity something to strive for in your opinion? Why? Why not?
