Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery

Consider the following scenario:

You are a consultant working for a medium-sized company. You have been asked to use their existing business continuity plan (BCP) to prepare a new disaster recovery plan. However, your client has a limited budget and is not convinced that a disaster recovery plan is needed. Your client states that he or she has not run into issues in the past, since his or her company does limited work online and is a brick and mortar facility. Your job is to convince your client that his or her business needs a disaster recovery plan.

Tasks:

Write a 5- to 7-page business report to your client that contains the following information:

  • Compare and contrast business continuity plans with disaster recovery plans.
  • Discuss why a disaster recovery plan is necessary even for brick and mortar businesses.
  • Identify at least two cases in which a disaster recovery plan has helped other medium-sized brick and mortar businesses.
  • Explain how a business can analyze the return on investment of a disaster recovery plan. Be careful not to overinflate numbers to use as a negotiation tool with finance folks in a business, and be sure to include numbers that financial managers may look at.

Write in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources (i.e., APA); and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
