Compare/Contrast Paper

Ask two people who work within the same organization to complete this OCB Questionnaire.
(This can be the organization where you currently work or some place else.)

Review their answers to the 35 items.

Write a short paper (2-3 pages) where you compare their responses.

Part 1: Briefly introduce the two people you surveyed and describe why you selected these two people.
(You can use their first names or make up names for them.)

Part 2: Comparison -- Similarity
Identify and present one category of OCB where these two workers offered very similar answers. (See the list below to find which questions respond to each of the seven types of OCB.)

Briefly present their answers & then offer at least TWO factors that might be influencing why their OCBs in this category are similar.

Types of Factors to Consider
Personal: the person's individual traits & dispositions
Social: the person's gender, age, marital/family status, education level, geographic background etc.
Organizational: length of time at company, position within the company, history with the company, company/industry policies etc.

* You're dealing with a lot of different numbers here! It's too jumbly and confusing to write something like this: Beth scored 3 on helping a co-worker, 4 on item 8, 2 on helping a new hire, 4 on number 22 and a 5 on checking in on a co-worker.
Instead, write: Beth averaged a 3.6 on the items related to Helping. Beth is more likely to check in on an existing co-worker (always) than to help out a new hire (rarely).

Part 3: Comparison -- Difference
Identify and present one category of OCB where these two workers offered noticeably different answers. (Be sure to think in terms of categories--see below--and not individual items.)

Briefly present their answers & then offer at least TWO factors that might be influencing their OCBs in this category.

Types of Factors to Consider
Personal: the person's individual traits & dispositions
Social: the person's gender, age, marital/family status, education level, geographic background etc.
Organizational: length of time at company, position within the company, history with the company

Part 4: Overall Thoughts
End with your own observations and comments about the interview process or these two people's responses or the questionnaire itself or Organizational Citizenship Behavior in general.
