We are taking a look at an outsider’s view of our American Economy and Work.  Professor Richard Wollf is an American Economist who teaches and analyzes things from a Marxist perspective.

According to the Assignment Guidelines posted, please  view two videos (links provided on the schedule below).  One is an Interview with Bill Moyers, and the other a video-lecture by professor Wolff),  and write an approximately four-page (double-spaced, 12 pt. font, one-inch margins) paper in which you offer a synopsis of the most important elements of Wolff's argument about the state of the capitalist economy in the United States. Why is there inequality built into this system?  Why is the workplace inherently not democratic?  Also, consider his presentation of the case of Mondragon, Spain, a relatively successful cooperative that offers an alternative to capitalism.

You may offer your own opinion on whether you were persuaded by Dr. Wolff’s views and whether you think the initiatives in Spain can be applied in the US, but you must demonstrate first that you've understood the essentials of Wolff's analysis and argument.

NOTE: take time to consider what Richard Wolff is saying, how he builds his argument, and his suggestions for how we can change both our economic system and higher education.

Also, please refer to the speaker as either “Dr. Wolff” or “Professor Wolff,” and not “Richard.” You may read further instructions on the Assignment Guidelines.
