Ashford 2: - Week 1 - Discussion 1

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Reference the
Discussion Forum Grading Rubric for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.

Assimilation

The textbook discusses the process of assimilation. After viewing the film,
Indian School: Stories of Survival, answer the following questions:

  1. What is the definition of assimilation?
  2. What happened to the Native American children in the film?
  3. Why did the American government decide to assimilate them into Western culture?
  4. How did this affect them long term?
  5. Is assimilating others into another culture ever justified?

Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims with examples from the required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts by Day 7.
