Final Research Paper: Please read all the instructions carefully, so you understand how to approach each section of the paper.

Pick one issue (for example, sexual harassment, high-turnover, outdated processes, unsafe work environment, ineffective communication, issues with diversity, social media, etc.), either within your organization, (note: you can also choose an organization that you have previously worked for), or one of your choosing that impacts any 2 of the 3 concepts below:

  • Organizational Culture: How did this issue impact the workplace culture?
  • Leadership: what role did leadership play in this issue?
  • Ethics: How did this issue impact the ethical climate and decision making of the organization?

What are potential solutions to this issue or issues?  How will these solutions help the culture, leadership or ethical climate and decision making of the organization?

Please follow the outline below when you write your paper.

Criteria for Final Research Paper:

This paper needs to be a minimum of 6, to maximum of 8 pages in  length (not including the cover page or reference page) and completed in APA format (6th edition) utilizing at least 6 scholarly resources for this paper. Please provide a heading for each section.  For example: "Introduction"; "Problem Statement;" and so forth.  This paper must include the following components:

  • Title page
  • Introduction

The introduction section of a paper is intended to provide the background information that is essential for the reader to understand the nature and scope of the problem you have selected and why you are researching the problem. By history, I do not mean when the company was founded or the actual history of the organization. Focus on setting up the background information to the issue.  The introduction helps the reader better understand the focus of your research paper.  Key literature citations may be included in the introduction to reinforce the need for researching the proposed topic and build credibility for your proposed research.  The introduction is NOT intended to be exhaustive!  Maximum: 3 paragraphs.

  • Problem statement (just like a thesis statement)

The problem statement provides a brief description of a specific problem that you hope to resolve as a result of conducting your research.  It should be clear, concise, definitive, unambiguous and readily understood by anyone who reads it.  While you may find it difficult to adequately express your central problem so briefly, the underlying reason behind this approach is to force you to focus on the central problem you will be examining and express it clearly and concisely. Maximum: 1 paragraph.

  • Content/Analysis of issue as it pertains to two of the three components of organizational behavior (I.e. culture, leadership & ethics). Please make sure your analysis section supports your problem statement.

In the main body of paper you want to focus on supporting your problem statement-think about why this problem exists, what has caused this issue and how it impacts two of the three components you have chosen (i.e. culture, leadership or ethics). Additionally, you also want to integrate information in from your own experiences as well as the text and at least 6 additional resources to further help provide examples and to substantiate your statements. Remember, do not focus on what "should" occur in this section, you want to focus on the issue.  Recommendations & possible solutions should be discussed in the section belowMaximum: 4 pages in length.

  • Potential Solutions/Recommendations

In this section you will discuss potential recommendations or solutions to your issue. It is not enough to just merely list solutions, you must explain why you chose the solution you did, and how it will potentially help the issue. Please make sure the solutions you provide tie into the examples provided in the analysis section.Maximum: one page in length.

  • Conclusion

The conclusion must be succinct and concise and wrap up the central theme of the paper.  It should emphasize the significance of your problem statement and the issues you have discussed throughout the body of your paper. Maximum: 2 paragraphs in length.
