Read the following empirical research article:
As you're reading, focus on the following ideas:
• What was the purpose of the research?
• Who were the subjects?
• What were the variables?
• What was the methodology? Is it well-balanced research?
• What were the conclusions?
• Do the statistics support the authors' conclusions?
• Do the graphs agree with the statistics and with the authors' conclusions?
• Were the statistics appropriate for the type of research design?
• What evidence exists to back up the authors' claims?
• Do you agree with the author's conclusions? Why or why not? Make your own claims based on evidence, rather than personal opinion, personal beliefs, unfounded ideas, or what "should be".
Write a 2-page paper about this paper. Critically analyze, assess, and critique the paper. Does it stand up to healthy scrutiny?
The paper should be 2 pages in length. Headers, such as your name, a title, etc. don't count towards this (so don't try to pad with a big header!). 12-point font, regular margins, double-spaced. Upload the assignment to Canvas using the TurnItIn submission option. Use proper in-text citation and include a Reference section (use this website as a guide for citation and references: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/02/
). You MUST properly paraphrase. Put everything into your own words to avoid accidental plagiarism.
Remember the 4 C's of writing: be concise, be clear, be coherent, and be complete. Worry more about presenting some clear ideas to show your critical thinking about the paper than about sounding smart or professional.
