Modular Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, the student will be able to satisfy the following outcomes:
· Case
· Explain and discuss Type I and Type II errors.
· Explain one-tailed and two-tailed tests.
· Construct hypotheses.
· Calculate the test statistic, P-value, and Z score from a set of data.
· Calculate and explain significance levels.
· SLP
· Run a regression for two data sets.
· Interpret regressions results.
· Use ANOVA to test for significance.
· Discussion
· Explain the limitations of the linear regression method.
Module Overview
In this final module we will look at the relationships between two variables.
First, we will examine regression where we predict the value of one variable (the dependent variable) based on the observed value of another variable (the independent variable).
Next, we will examine how closely these two variables move in the same direction. More specifically, how much of the change in the dependent variable can be explained by changes in the independent variable.
The two main statistical methods we will be looking at are Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and least squares (also called regression).
