A summer season of  Shakespeare in the Park (http://www.publictheater.org/content/view/126/219/)featured a production of Merchant of Venice (starring Al Pacino) that  got so much buzz it was subsequently remounted on Broadway in the fall of 2010. It earned rave reviews and Tony nominations. Even more important than that, the production thrilled  audiences and sold out many performances. I was lucky enough to be in one of those audiences, which I discuss on the audio. The reviews by Roca Mora in The Broad Street Review(of the summer production) and by Brantley in the New York Times (of both the summer and the Broadway production) raise a number of interesting issues relevant to our class. Please share your thoughts on a point raised in any or all of the reviews and my comments on the audio. Feel free to agree or disagree.
