FOR NANCY CAROL ONLY
PAMELA 2013Research Paper Due at the End of Week 3
Write a five (5) page minimum, DOUBLE SPACED, 12-FONT TIMES ROMAN paper with references and sources cited in APA format. Your cover sheet, abstract and your source citing/references are NOT included in the five page minimum.
Your grade will depend upon the presentation of your analysis and research, the quality of the work presented - whether you give a detailed presentation or a vague overview, whether you addressed all parts of the question asked, and how you support your argument/discussion - as well as the citing of a variety of sources/use of references and whether you met the mandatory minimum page requirement. Please make sure to use AT LEAST 5 sources for your research.
The paper should be written using APA Format. Please make sure you review your paper for spelling, grammar, and format and plagiarism errors before submitting it. Remember that the paper should be typed in Microsoft Word and submitted as an attachment. Your paper will not receive a grade until it is submitted properly. If you need assistance, please let me know.
It is recommended that you use the Keiser Owl Writing Lab to assist you with editing and revising your paper before turning it in.
Please note that APA format requires a cover/title page, an abstract page, and a reference page. These do not count toward your 5 page minimum.
You may make your presentation in essay form, though the use of some tables might be helpful. I would expect this project to be 5 pages in length, double spaced, not including the title page, reference page or abstract page. Please choose from one of the topics below and be sure to submit your topic to your professor by the end of Week 1 in the appropriate icon under Week 1:
Choice 1: Discuss the goals of a victim-witness program. In what ways are they complex or conflicting? In what ways do some goals serve as constraints? Now consider those goals in the context of where in the organization the program is located. Will they differ if the program is attached to the prosecutor’s office or if it is an independent unit? How would you design a victim-witness program?
Choice 2: Discuss how the terrorists’ attacks on 9/11 affected the criminal justice agencies. Include in your paper, the formation of a new government department: Homeland Security. How is the new structure working against the War on Terrorism? How is the new structure not working?
Choice 3: Examine the concepts of a “new criminal justice”. Discuss why a concept that necessitates the involvement of the entire community may be difficult to implement. Using Project Safe Neighborhoods as one of your examples; what might communities like and dislike about such programs?
Choice 4: Your job is to develop a program for training corrections officers for a special internal affairs unit. They will investigate problems of contraband and violence in a prison while working as regular officers. Whom would you recruit, and how would you structure the process of training? What would the content of training be? What problems with the socialization process do you anticipate?
Choice 5: How can you distinguish between corruption and official deviance in policing? What socialization processes support each of these? Design an in-service training program whose chief goal is to combat the organizational processes you describe.
This is due by Sunday 11:59 p.m. of Week 3.
