Weekly Debrief due by Saturday @ 11:55 pm

Mini https://soundcloud.com/ncv2/chapter-7-mini

Learning Objectives:

  • Summarize the Learning Objectives (see Scope of Work) using the text, Minis, forums and discussions.
  • Chapter 7: Organization Structure

    1. Identify the factors that influence managers' choice of an organizational structure. [LO 7-1]
    2. Explain how managers group tasks into jobs that are motivating and satisfying for employees. [LO 7-2]
    3. Describe the types of organizational structures managers can design, and explain why they choose one structure over another. [LO 7-3]
    4. Explain why managers must coordinate jobs, functions, and divisions using the hierarchy of authority and integrating mechanisms. [LO 7-4]
  • Relate the class content to personal experiences.
  • Evaluate your response to the lessons learned.

Instructions:

Your weekly debrief is a reflection of your learning this week. You will highlight key lessons from the text, Minis, and discussions so that you can fully integrate this information into your existing knowledge structure and gain a new understanding of the management world around you. Your responses should be very clearly and well organized using an outline form. Your responses must clearly indicate careful reading, an engagement with the forums and discussions and thoughtful reflection. Very importantly: use the text learning objectives found at the beginning of each chapter to guide your summary. Remember to also address the Mini questions (questions posed by me during my Mini lectures).

In summary, you will:

  1. Answer the Learning Objectives found in the Scope of Work. Remember to use the text, Minis, and discussions because you want to integrate your learning.
  2. Answer or address the questions from the Minis (these are in bold in the transcripts).
  3. Discuss how these concepts apply to a past or present job, school, sports team, personal life, etc?
  4. Share what concept you found new or surprising and why you felt this way.

To add your Weekly Debrief to Moodle, select "Add Submission" below and copy/paste your content into the Moodle editor

I recommend that you write your debrief outside of Moodle and paste it into the editor window so you do not lose your content (I speak from experience). This is because you might get timed out and lose everything (not good!).
